Bribery vs. 2 BuCor execs
By Nidz Godino
Corrections Officer 1 Arnel Jamero and Corrections Senior Officer 2 Henry Escrupulo are being investigated during operations conducted by Bureau of Corrections (BuCor) and Muntinlupa police.
BuCor officials were arrested in separate stings on charges of bribery in connection with issuance of firearms among agency personnel.
According to BuCor report, police first caught Jamero, who was an officer at New Bilibid Prison's maximum security compound.
Jamero allegedly received P6,500 from victim Corrections Officer 1 Marvin Asoy to expedite issuance of firearms from BuCor armory.
Under interrogation, Jamero claimed he was supposed to simply hand over money to Escrupulo, head of BuCor's escorting unit.
Jamero's claim prompted police to conduct another entrapment operation. Escrupulo was arrested in his office as Jamero was handing him bribe money.
Found in Escrupulo's phone were message exchanges with Chief Senior Inspector Alex Hizola, BuCor's armory chief, in connection with issuance of firearms.
Hizolain, who remains at large, is said to have personal knowledge of illegal transactions.
Administrative and criminal cases are being readied against three BuCor personnel.
