The bombing of the Twin Towers of the World Trade Centre in New York City on September 11, 2001, has brought forth a new world political order through the US-led war on terror. The US government under President George W. Bush and its Operation Enduring Freedom divided the world into those who were with the US or against them.
More than two decades later, the impact of the US-led war on terror is still being felt in countries whose citizenry vocally oppose the interventionist policy of the US and other imperialist countries. The "war on terror" in the Philippines, once regarded as the second front of Afghanistan, has shifted its focus from the lawless groups such as the Abu Sayyaf to liberation movements like the CPP-NPA-NDF; from bombing Moro communities in Mindanao to now targeting farming and indigenous peoples communities accused of supporting the NPA; from accusing all Muslims of sympathizing with and supporting the ASG and the Al-Qaeda to red tagging and terror-tagging of activists and critics.
With the title, "War of Terror" the forum will shed light on the two decades imperialist imposition of the new world economic and political order under the guise of the anti-terror war, the political and cultural impact of the US global "war on terror" to the Moro people of the Philippines and the current impact on activists and critics.
Joining us are Ms. Rhonda Ramiro of the Resist US-Led War, Ms. Amirah Ali Lidasan of the Sandugo Movement and ILPS Commission 10, and Mr. Raymond Palatino, secretary-general of the Bagong Alyansang Makabayan.
The International League of Peoples Struggles - Commission 10 along with Sandugo - Movement of Moro and Indigenous Peoples for Self-Determination, in cooperation with BAYAN - Bagong Alyansang Makabayan (New Patriotic Alliance), and the Asia Pacific Research Network - APRN, invite you to a forum to discuss the continuing impact of the US-led "war on terror" to the Philippines.
