A magnitude 5.9 earthquake hit Davao de Oro Friday early morning.
According to the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) the tectonic temblor struck at 2:58 a.m.
The epicenter has been located at 35 kilometers southeast of New Bataan and had a depth of 13 kilometers.
The following intensities have been recorded:
Intensity V -New Bataan, Maragusan, and Pantukan, Davao De Oro; Banaybanay, Caraga, Lupon, Manay, City of Mati, and Tarragona, Davao Oriental
Intensity IV - Compostela, Laak, Mabini, Maco, Mawab, Monkayo, Montevista, and Nabunturan, Davao De Oro; Asuncion, Braulio E. Dujali, Carmen, Kapalong, New Corella, City of Panabo, Island Garden City of Samal, San Isidro,Santo Tomas, City of Tagum, and Talaingod, Davao Del Norte; Baganga, Boston, Cateel, Governor Generoso, and San Isidro, Davao Oriental
Intensity III - City of Digos, and Santa Cruz, Davao Del Sur; City of Davao, City of Davao
Intensity II - Bansalan, Hagonoy, Kiblawan, Magsaysay, Malalag, Matanao, Padada, and Sulop, DAVAO DEL SUR; Malita, and Santa Maria, Davao Occidental; Tupi, South Cotabato
Intensity I - Alamada, and Magpet, Cotabato; Tampakan, South Cotabato; City of Bislig, and City of Tandag, Surigao Del Sur

Intensity II - Matanao, Davao Del Sur; City of Davao, City of Davao; Don Marcelino, Davao Occidental; Alamada, and Magpet, Cotabato; City of Koronadal, and Tampakan, South Cotabato
Intensity I - City of Kidapawan, and M'lang, Cotabato; Kiamba, and Malapatan, Sarangani; Banga, and Polomolok, South Cotabato; City of General Santos, City of General Santos
Classes in the province were suspended in the aftermath of the earthquake. The tremor also caused power outages in the provinces of Davao de Oro and Davao Oriental according to Franz Irag, the spokesperson of the Office of Civil Defense (OCD) in the Davao Region.
Damage to properties were expected as well as the possibility of aftershocks according to Phivolcs.
