Then one day, yo girl woke up in reality that she's not getting any younger. Vision starts to get blurry, back pain is a normal thing any time of the day, white hair slowly becomes visible, and so are wrinkles. She's on her way to the last year of her 30s and she's still using baby powder. She has no knowledge about skin care, no idea about make ups other than eyebrow and lip tint, but she's eager to learn now! She started getting interested about taking care of her skin after realizing that she looked like she aged a lot from last year.
Yup, I am she.
Don't get me wrong. I go to dermatologist to have a facial at least once every two months or once every quarter if I'm lazy. Well, I'm always lazy, especially about these things. This laziness is the very reason why I blocked the idea in my head about having a skin care routine because when Korean beauty made its way here in the Philippines through their entertainment and music industry, I used to hear about the 7 steps or 9 steps skin regime, which for me is overwhelming.
It's not that I don't have the time. It's just that I was too lazy for that.
During my Tiktok researches before our trip, I learned that skincare products was on top of the list of What to Buy in South Korea, then followed by Kpop things. I screengrab some of the items that caught my attention in anticipation that I will be seeing those products easily, especially that we planned on staying at Myeongdong area. But before we even went to Seoul, I ordered US minis already to one of my go-to shops in Instagram, The Wicked Beauty PH.
In Seoul, I had this pasabuy thing mainly for skincare and Kpop merchandise. Thinking that it will be easy for me to look for items that they want me to buy on their behalf, girl, it was too overwhelming in Myeongdong! We even arrived at the exact day when Olive Young is on huge sale! So I resorted to talking to sales people and asked for help to get me everything I needed. Good or bad thing, I still don't know yet, I was tempted to buy something for myself of the same products my friends asked for. Inggitera lang.
It's like Watsons here in the Philippines.
So many items on sale!
So many products to choose from.
Now with all these products I bought for myself, I wish I will be able to use them all 'no? I wish they won't get expired because it's quite costly to have this skincare regime. I'm on my 3rd week and surprisingly, I am enjoying it. I even adjusted the time I wake up every morning to do my morning skincare.
Here's my current routine that I learned from my close friend:
I start washing my face with variety of facial wash from Clinique, Philosophy, and local brands, such as Looca and Celeteque. My skin type is more on the oily side, but not sensitive, so I can use any facial wash to my liking.
Then I cleanse my face further using Roundlab toner and flat cotton from Miniso.
I dampen my face with Lancome serum, then massage my skin and wait for five minutes. I read somewhere that waiting for five minutes is needed so that my skin can absorb the serum. I am also alternately using Soul Apothecary Vitamin C Brightening Serum that I bought in Shopee as recommended by my friend.
Then followed by Clinique moisturizer. I use Laneige at times and I don't get irritations using either of the brands, but I'm planning stick to a Korean moisturizer once these run out.
After another five minutes, I end my routine with Roundlab sunscreen.
In the evening, I follow the same routine except for sunscreen, then will finish by applying Laneige lip vitamin.
On a weekly basis, I use Mediheal Black mask sheet, which I saw from the vlog of Kim Chiu during one of my researches.
I am also planning to use retinol at least once a week or once every two weeks. I already bought one, but I'm still hesitant to use it since according to my friend, it can cause breakout for first time users. I will probably use it during the upcoming long holiday so in case something happens, at least, I'm home lang. Also, I'm still curious about the toner pads that my officemate bought through me in Seoul. Brands such as Mediheal or Corsx are very popular in Tiktok. Shoutout as well to Deedee for the Kahi balm, which I normally see in Kdramas, kaso ba't ang mahal! Haha.
This is my skincare journey and I would be happy to know yours! Let's learn from each other!
Funny how I use to say that my skin looks oily, but nowadays, Jeff often says, "No, it's glass skin." Haha. Char.
