Ph, India in talks for supply of 7 choppers

"We're trying to build up our capacity our capabilities in terms of our coast guard…of course search and rescue is always primary consideration," President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. told Indian Ambassador Shambhu Kumaran, Philippines is in talks with India for supply of seven helicopters that will be used for rescue and humanitarian efforts of Philippine Coast Guard (PCG).
According to Presidential Communications Office, FMJ discussed India's offer with Kumaran during their meeting at MalacaƱang.
FMJ said new helicopters would be big help to Philippine government's efforts to build up country's capabilities in terms of rescue and humanitarian efforts.
"As you heard news, there is continuing problem really that we have to deal with and we have to increase our capabilities," FMJ added.
For his part, Kumaran said there are ongoing talks between Indian government, PCG and its mother agency, Department of Transportation (DOTr), for supply of seven helicopters for agency's maritime search and rescue operations and humanitarian services.
"Discussion is going on very well… Coast Guard is very interested they've flown helicopter … I would request your consideration because that would be very positive program," Kumaran told FMJ.
Helicopters would be provided to PCG are built for India's Navy and Coast Guard that can be used for more active security operations can carry more people and load, according to Kumaran.
"So, these seven helicopters are really optimal solution, given changing requirements for Philippine Coast Guard to play more active role and its security," Kumaran said.
