From where I stood in my proudly-thrifted heels, Mae and Joe's wedding was a beautiful celebration of love surrounded by family and friends to witness their vows of loyalty and support till death do them part.
There were tears and laughter. Teary smiles that turned into laughter. Stories of mosquito repellents that attracted the chance of happily-ever-after under coconut trees and a Boracay moon.
It was truly an honour to be a part of the audience whom these beginnings were shared.
Everything was simply gorgeous -- from the intimate barnyard wedding feels to the personalised dining setup, the devil was definitely in the details. I've never been welcomed to so much elegance in my life! The bourgeois in me that was internally beaming from ear to ear was the same bourgeois that was sending out telepathic vibes to the universe to hasten the law of attraction because I am definitely ready for this kind of lifestyle!
Before me, on my plate, the dusty rose presentation and Bev's gift-wrapped cookie as wedding token bore witness to my awe at its beauty and the hosts' thoughtfulness. Nearby, the sexiest-looking olives and bread seduced and it wasn't long before I gave in to the temptation which precipitated a subtle competition between me and my sister neither of us would dare to admit.
I read the menu like I was studying Nursing Pathophysiology all over again. By that, I mean I only understood parts of it and pretty much surmised the rest. The light yellow card stock was peppered with culinary words like piccantosa, cacciatore, cornichons, and lavosh.
I had no idea what they were but I ate them all anyway.
By the time the mains were served, I was ready to burst but somehow, by some form of miracle or sheer determination, still managed to stuff myself with more food.
Same way one person in our group managed to stuff a bottle of wine in a coat jacket and whisked it away in the dark of the night to be enjoyed the next time we get together for grilled pork belly. I don't know when that will be but rest assured there's a bottle of 2021 Shiraz ready for that occasion.
