A recent incident on the EDSA busway in Metro Manila resulted in injuries to five passengers. The accident occurred when a bus was forced to swerve and crash into a railing to avoid a collision with a police car that unexpectedly entered the busway. Captured on CCTV, the dramatic scene unfolded near the Santolan Station southbound, part of the Metro Rail Transit Line 3 (MRT-3) infrastructure.
In response to this incident, the Department of Transportation (DOTr) issued a reminder to all motorists authorized to use the EDSA busway to exercise caution and prioritize passenger safety. This reminder is particularly pertinent considering the recent implementation of stricter penalties by the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) for unauthorized use of the busway. The DOTr also reiterated the categories of vehicles permitted on the busway, which include LTFRB-authorized buses, on-duty emergency vehicles, service vehicles for the EDSA Busway Project, and vehicles of top government officials.
