Ianne Gamboa, a trailblazing figure in the Philippines, has achieved another significant milestone by becoming a lawyer after passing the 2023 Bar examinations. This accomplishment follows her notable feat five years prior, where she was recognized as the first transgender valedictorian at the Polytechnic University of the Philippines, in their pre-law program. Gamboa, who studied at Jose Rizal University, aspired to be the first openly transgender woman topnotcher in the Philippine Bar exams. Although she did not achieve this specific goal, Gamboa remains hopeful and encourages the younger generation of transwomen to fulfill this dream, seeing it as a challenge and inspiration for them.
Reflecting on the Bar exams, which had a passing rate of only 36.77% in 2023, Gamboa shared the emotional moment of discovering her name on the list of passers. Her achievement brought tears of joy to both her and her family, highlighting the support and prayers they provided since the beginning of her law school journey. Gamboa's father, P/Chief Master Sergeant Paul Gamboa, expressed his immense pride and happiness, viewing his daughter's success as a Christmas blessing for their family. He was assigned to the security detail at the Supreme Court's premises, which allowed him to witness the announcement of the new lawyers, including his daughter.
