| janimonow Jan 2 | In a remarkable tale of resilience and survival, Rosalon Cayon, a 31-year-old fisherman from Brgy. Liberty, Puerto Princesa City, was rescued after being adrift at sea for eight days. The Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) reported that Cayon embarked on a fishing trip with another fisherman on December 20, 2023. Tragedy struck three days later when a hole in the hull of his boat caused it to capsize, approximately 40 nautical miles off the coast of Buliluyan in mainland Palawan. Separated from his companion, Cayon clung to a piece of styrofoam to stay afloat in the vast sea. His ordeal ended after eight grueling days when he was spotted and rescued by a sampan, a small Chinese fishing boat. The Chinese fishermen safely transported him to the Rizal Reef Detachment (RRD), where Filipino troops are currently providing him with care and treatment. The AFP has informed Cayon's family of his situation and is making arrangements to reunite the resilient fisherman with his loved ones. This incident highlights the dangers faced by fishermen and the unpredictable nature of the sea, as well as the spirit of international cooperation in maritime rescue operations. | | | |
