We decided to keep it simple. Very simple, in fact, that we only planned on cooking straight-up typical Filipino food, such as monggos and tomatoed dried fish.
We devoured it.
These are the foods that remind you of childhood and home. Perhaps the same ones you hated growing up because you wanted the fancy restaurant dishes but it's ironic how you start to miss and enjoy them when you're all grown up and living away from home.
It was a very small and simple dinner spent with the usual crew. Ate Lorna was here. Only being a bit older, she and my mom got along quite well, swapping stories about their generation, their children and grandchildren. She was our mother here when she used to live next door. Such a lovely lady that I have come to consider as family.
Indeed, I have been blessed to be surrounded by wonderful family and friends. There is so much to be thankful for and each day, I never fail to count them all as my blessing on top of everything else.
Cheers to another prosperous year!
