It was after Christmas but before New Year's. The same day Savers had a 50% Sale on all clothing items. I know, because we went there in the morning. I thought my mom was serious when she said days before that she wasn't going. That she already had enough clothes. That she was going to take a break from op shopping.
But then the day comes and I tease her, "Do you wanna go?"
Instantly she crumbles. Didn't even put up a fight, but had just enough pride to say "Fine." as if she was forced to do so against her will.
We were there for three hours. I bought a really cute polka dot tulle dress I don't know where to wear.
She lives in Malvern, my sister. One of those posh Melbourne suburbs with a median house value of $2.71 Million.
"Do you like this house, My?" Jeff asked Mommy, referring to a random mansion where he was doing a three point turn looking for parking. "When I'm rich, I'll buy that house and you can have that bedroom with the window over there."
We all laughed. It was quite a funny joke. But life is full of surprises so, who knows? Joke's on us. The universe will put us in Toorak.
As a garden lover, my mom oohs and aahs over every botanical scenery she lays her eyes on. Seriously. Even the ordinary plants by the footpath. She'd ask to have her picture taken next to them so she can show her Garden Club friends back home how big and gorgeous the succulents here are.
My sister prepared a simple but wonderful meal for us -- pulled lamb with a side of greens, caprese salad, and fresh homemade pita bread that she probably made so much effort kneading and leavening. She's the wife material, to be honest. She can, and loves to cook.
I just like to eat.
