Alden Richards, celebrated for his role in "Five Breakups and a Romance," embarks on a new journey in the historical series "Pulang Araw," set against the backdrop of World War II. In a report by Cata Tibayan for "24 Oras," the acclaimed Asia's Multimedia Star shared insights into the complexities of his latest project, where he portrays Eduardo, a character of half American descent.
The actor expressed the difficulty he faces with the language used in the series, noting the significant difference from contemporary speech. "The challenge lies in the words. The language spoken back then is quite different from what we use daily," he remarked. Richards highlighted the depth and complexity of the old Tagalog language, mentioning how it requires a different breathing technique due to its profound and airy nature. Despite these challenges, Richards finds joy in bringing such a unique aspect of history to life.
Richards also shared a personal connection to the era depicted in "Pulang Araw," drawing inspiration from his grandparents, who were born during World War II. "This project materializes the stories told by my grandmother when I was a child, set during the Japanese occupation in the Philippines, which was a very difficult time," he explained. The actor emphasized the importance of honoring the sacrifices made for the Philippines' freedom during those turbulent times.
"Pulang Araw" boasts a star-studded cast, including Barbie Forteza as Adelina, Alden's character's half-sister, Sanya Lopez, David Licauco, with notable appearances by Angelu De Leon, Epy Quizon, Rochelle Pangilinan, and Aidan Veneracion. To prepare for their roles, Forteza and Lopez have taken up tap dancing lessons, showcasing their dedication to authenticity in the series.
