The Department of Justice, in coordination with tech companies, has launched a telemedicine application for persons deprived of liberty (PDLs) at the Correctional Institution for Women (CIW).
"Hindi nila kinakailangan ng additional facility. Andito po sila sa loob. Imo-monitor po sila nung nurse habang sila ay nag te-telemedicine," Karrie Buenafe of Huawei Philippines said on Raffy Tima's report on Unang Balita.
(They don't need an additional facility. They will be here. They will be monitored by the nurse during the telemedicine.)
According to the report, free tablets were also given to the correctional institution.
"Sa heart, sa breast, sa cervical, 'yun po yung mga illnesses na nandito," CIW acting warden Daisy Sevilla-Castillote said.
(In the heart, the breast, the cervical, those are the kinds of illnesses that some of the PDLs have.)
Justice Undersecretary Deo Marco, meanwhile, said that the telemedicine application will be launched in all the prisons and penal farms of the Bureau of Corrections (BuCor).
"Nag simula lang kami sa CIW but gagawin namin ito sa lahat ng mga penal facilities natin," Marco said.
(We started here in the CIW but we will do this in all penal facilities.)
Aside from the telemedicine program, the DOJ said it will also intensify the livelihood program in the CIW. —Joahna Lei Casilao/ VAL, GMA Integrated News
