The Diocese of Malolos received with jubilation her seven new deacons last December 5, 2023, in a solemn rite presided over by Malolos Bishop, Most Reverend Dennis C. Villarojo, D.D., at the Minor Basilica and Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception, City of Malolos, Bulacan.
The Holy Mass and Rite of Ordination were attended by the clergy, the lay faithful of the diocese, and the communities of the Immaculate Conception Major Seminary (ICMAS) and the Holy Apostles Senior Seminary (HASS). This year's diaconal ordination was special because it was the first time in recent history that the number of ordinandi reached seven.
In his homily, Bishop Villarojo reminded the new deacons that they must not forget "to pray and do social action." He further stressed that "social action must flow from their spirituality" that reflects their "intimate relationship with Christ."
The seven new deacons are: Rev. Peter Collin Crisostomo, Rev. Lester John Cabais, Rev. Mark Lawrence Bernardo, Rev. Rayben James Bundoc, Rev. Alvin de Leon, Rev. John Paul Morales, and Rev. Aaron Mark Jose. Reverends Peter Collin and Lester John underwent their initial priestly formation at HASS.
Rev. Peter entered the seminary formation at the age of 25. After earning his bachelor's degree in Biology, he worked as a high school teacher for five years. In March 2023, he successfully defended his master's thesis at the San Carlos Graduate School of Theology entitled "The Contemplation on the Incarnation in the Spiritual Exercises of St. Ignatius of Loyola as a Tool for Enriching the Immersion Programs to the Indigenous Peoples." Rev. Peter is a member of Batch Misericordia 2022.
Rev. Lester John entered the seminary at the age of 29. He earned his bachelor's degree in Tourism and worked as a senior high school principal and college instructor before entering the seminary. He graduated from the San Carlos Graduate School of Theology with a Dean's List award. Rev. Lex is a member of Batch Eucharistia 2023.
Reverends Peter and Lester John are currently assigned as the Assisting Deacons to the bishop. The two new deacons add to the roster of priests in the Diocese of Malolos who had their initial formation at HASS which includes Rev. Fr. Eugene Cruz and Rev. Fr. Philip Faustino Volante.
Malolos is one of the biggest dioceses in the Philippines in terms of land area and population, with nearly four million Catholics. It has 10 vicariates with 119 parishes and quasi-parishes in Bulacan and Valenzuela.
