There are countless compelling reasons to make a return visit to Bohol, the tenth largest island in the Philippines. We've just wrapped up our third unforgettable journey to this breathtaking destination. Our first two trips involved flying in from Manila, while our third saw us arriving by sea from the stunning Siquijor province (specifically, from the Port of Siquijor to the Port of Tagbilaran). Allow us to share our absolute favorite activities in Bohol, Philippines!
1.) Visit Churches
As you may all know, we believe that churches are examples of marvelous cultural and heritage masterpieces in a place. They tell the story of the inhabitants' past and present. In Bohol, there are many churches considered to be national treasures. We did a church tour on our first visit to Bohol. Unfortunately, I hadn't saved any photos at that time. Recently, we visited the Tagbilaran Cathedral. One of the most intriguing aspects of this church is the use of Filipino characters in the ceiling paintings. If you zoom in on the picture below, you can see that some of the characters portray Filipino natives. (Swipe below photo for more pictures)
2.) Staycation
Bohol exudes a magnetic allure with its exquisite array of hotels and resorts, ready to elevate your getaway to new heights. Prepare to be pampered with world-class hospitality as you immerse yourself in the thriving international tourism scene of Bohol. Among the plethora of options, standouts such as Abraham Bohol, Solea Panglao, Bluewater Bohol and BE Bohol await, promising unforgettable experiences. Read our blog here. 3.) Beach Hopping
One of the enchanting havens we've had the pleasure of visiting is Alona Beach. The beach derives its name from a Filipina bold star, Alona, who became the center of attention when locals caught sight of her in the nude on this very shore. Following that fateful event, the beach's reputation was sealed in history. This vibrant coastal area boasts numerous hotels, lively party clubs, and an array of beach activities. However, during our time there, we found solace in simply gazing out at the beach for hours, an experience that proved to be truly therapeutic. It felt incredibly rejuvenating, especially after spending long hours in front of a computer as part of a 9 to 5 city job.

4.) Say hi to Tarsiers
The Philippines is home to one of the tiniest primates on the planet, the Philippine tarsier. Found exclusively in Bohol and Leyte, these fascinating creatures are known for their immense eyes and remarkable jumping abilities, which allow them to move swiftly through the forest canopy. Visiting their natural habitat offers a rare opportunity to observe these unique animals in the wild and learn about the conservation efforts aimed at protecting their dwindling populations. Whether you are an animal lover, a nature enthusiast, or simply seeking a one-of-a-kind experience, encountering the world's smallest primate in its natural environment is sure to leave a lasting impression.
5.) Chocolate Hills
The mesmerizing view of almost 1200 hills awaits you and your special someone. During the summer, these hills take on the appearance of sweet chocolate kisses, adding to the romance of the experience. It's a popular spot for marriage proposals, adding an extra touch of magic to the atmosphere. Local folklore even tells a whimsical tale of two giants creating these hills by throwing mud at each other. Additionally, archaeologists have found evidence that these hills were once under the ocean, with the discovery of corals and sea shells embedded within them. It's a place steeped in both natural beauty and captivating stories. (Swipe below photo for more pictures)
6.) National Museum of the Philippines- Bohol
The National Museum of the Philippines-Bohol branch offers a comprehensive journey through the rich tapestry of Bohol's history, culture, and natural heritage. As you traverse its halls, you will encounter diverse exhibits that bring to life the essence of Boholanos through the ages.
One captivating area delves into the captivating realm of Bohol Architecture, focusing on the iconic churches that stand as testaments to the province's rich architectural heritage. These structures not only showcase remarkable craftsmanship but also serve as living testaments to Bohol's enduring faith and cultural identity.
In another captivating section, visitors are invited to explore the intriguing world of natural trivia, discovering the unique flora and fauna that call Bohol home. From the enigmatic tarsier to the vibrant array of endemic plant species, this portion of the museum serves as a celebration of Bohol's natural wonders and the importance of conservation efforts to preserve them for future generations.
Journeying further through the museum, you will encounter a compelling portrayal of Boholanos' ancient life, providing a window into their traditions, livelihoods, and societal customs. This immersive experience allows visitors to gain insight into the vibrant tapestry of traditions and customs that have shaped Bohol's cultural landscape across the centuries.
Furthermore, the museum pays homage to the resilience of Boholanos during colonialism, shedding light on their struggles, triumphs, and the enduring spirit that has defined the province throughout its history. It presents a poignant narrative that underscores the resilience and fortitude of the Boholano people in the face of adversity, highlighting their unwavering determination to preserve their cultural heritage.
Additionally, a dedicated area within the museum honors the illustrious national artists who have emerged from the province of Bohol, showcasing their masterful works and celebrating their invaluable contributions to the Philippine artistic legacy. This serves as a testament to Bohol's role as a cradle of artistic talent, fostering creativity and innovation that resonates far beyond its borders.
Overall, the National Museum of the Philippines-Bohol branch stands as a captivating tapestry of Bohol's past, present, and future, weaving together the captivating narratives of its architecture, natural wonders, ancient traditions, colonial heritage, and artistic legacy into an enriching and thought-provoking experience for all who walk through its doors.

7.) Food Trip
Exploring the food scene in Bohol is truly authentic. I was surprised to find that fresh seafood can be quite pricey here. This is because there are not many fishermen in Bohol, so businesses have to bring in fish from nearby areas. Most of the local fishermen have actually become tour guides. On the bright side, even though seafood is expensive despite being surrounded by the sea, most restaurant owners are committed to offering the best meals. Some of our top choices include Barwoo, Kajun, and Abraham Bohol. I'm sure we'll discover more favorites on our next trip. Read our blog here. (Swipe below photo for more pictures)
8.) Coffee / Cafe Culture
During the high afternoon hours where it can be so hot outside, tourists can stay in cafes or coffeeshops in Bohol. There are a lot of interesting coffeeshops. Maybe some visitors prefer to savor a refreshing iced coffee or fruit smoothie as they take in the charming ambiance of these establishments. This leisurely pause also provides an opportunity to connect with fellow travelers or simply absorb the local atmosphere. Additionally, some cafes in Bohol may offer delectable pastries or local delicacies, adding to the overall experience of indulging in a relaxing break from the heat. 9.) Malling
In recent years, Bohol has witnessed a rise in the number of mall establishments, providing locals and tourists with a welcome alternative to outdoor activities during the peak hours of sun exposure. These indoor spaces offer a variety of entertainment, shopping, and dining options, making them particularly appealing to those who prefer to avoid the intense midday sun. As Bohol's commercial landscape continues to evolve, these malls not only cater to the entertainment needs of the community but also contribute to the overall development of the region's economy and tourism industry.
10.) Spa
From luxurious resort spas to small, local massage parlors, visitors can find a wide range of options to unwind and indulge in ultimate relaxation. The rates can be more pricey though because of the demand compared to other destinations.
11.) Adventure Parks
When it comes to adventure parks, the options are virtually endless. From thrilling ziplining experiences to challenging obstacle courses, adventure parks offer a wide array of exciting activities for thrill-seekers. Ziplining, in particular, provides a unique perspective of the surroundings as you soar through the air, ensuring a memorable and exhilarating experience.
12.) Loboc River Cruise
We also tried cruising while enjoying a lunch buffet and hearing local songs. Then this cruise will pass by some of the interesting spots such as a re-imagined ancient community set up of Boholanons in the olden days.
There are a lot of other things not on this list. We will definitely relive next time and retake our lost pictures on Abatan River Tour, Danao Adventure Park, Butterfly Garden, Ubay Stock Farm, Bilar Man Made Forest, Alicia Panoramic Park, Dolphing Watching and more!
