Following the conclusion of the Holy Week break, Metro Manila experienced significant traffic congestion on Monday morning as people journeyed back from various provinces. The increase in vehicles affected major thoroughfares including the EDSA-Roxas Boulevard flyover leading to Manila, C5 Eastwood towards Taguig, and EDSA-Kamuning en route to Makati and Pasay.
As early as 7 a.m., the Parañaque Integrated Terminal Exchange (PITX) had seen 26,725 passengers arriving, with the influx causing considerable traffic build-up around the terminal area. The period from March 22 to March 31 saw an impressive 1.2 million travelers pass through PITX, underscoring the significant movement of individuals during the festive period.
In anticipation of the post-holiday travel surge, the Department of Transportation (DOTr) and the Land Transportation Office (LTO) were proactive in their preparations. DOTr Secretary Jaime J. Bautista emphasized the importance of ensuring a safe return for travelers, while LTO chief Assistant Secretary Vigor D. Mendoza II called for sustained vigilance in road safety measures.
To manage the expected return of millions to the metro and other urban centers, safety inspections of buses and road safety campaigns were conducted. The LTO urged travelers to practice caution, avoid driving under the influence, ensure adequate rest before driving, and maintain patience to prevent road rage incidents.
