The Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) is sounding the alarm on the increasing presence of vapes containing marijuana oil in the local market, highlighting the illegality and potential health dangers of these products. Over the recent weekend, the agency reported a spike in cannabis-infused e-cigarettes discovered during their anti-drug campaigns.
On March 14, PDEA's efforts led to the apprehension of two individuals in Taguig City, linked to drug activities. The operation netted a haul of cannabis oil, marijuana kush, and various vaping devices, valued at around P842,000.
Further, a significant seizure occurred last week when PDEA, together with the Bureau of Customs, intercepted 18 balikbayan boxes at Manila's Port Area. These boxes concealed cannabis oil and marijuana kush within e-cigarettes, amounting to a total worth of P337 million.
PDEA expressed concern over the trend of marijuana oil cartridges in the market, pointing out the rising domestic demand. The agency is particularly worried about the youth, as the vaping culture is more prevalent among them. There is a fear that these cannabis products could be mistaken for regular vape liquids and sold to young consumers.
Highlighting the risks, PDEA urged the public to steer clear of these marijuana-infused e-cigarettes. The agency emphasized the health risks and the strict legal prohibition against such products. The spread of these vapes could inadvertently lead to marijuana addiction among unsuspecting users.
To combat this issue, PDEA plans to enhance surveillance on both physical and online outlets dealing in cannabis-flavored vaping products. The agency is also calling for strengthened regulations and support from relevant authorities to curb the sale of such illegal substances in vape stores and among importers and retailers.
