Ogie Alcasid recently shared that his wife, Regine Velasquez, has expressed concerns about her place in the music industry given the emergence of many talented new singers. During an appearance on "Fast Talk with Boy Abunda" on Friday, Alcasid reflected on Velasquez's sentiments about her career.
Acknowledging Change
Boy Abunda revisited a previous interview where Velasquez mentioned feeling that her time as a top singer had passed. Alcasid confirmed that they frequently discuss this topic, with daily realizations about their evolving careers.
"Always. Araw-araw namin 'yang pinag-uusapan, at araw-araw kaming nagkakaroon ng maraming realization," Alcasid shared. He recounted how Velasquez watches old videos of herself and reminisces about her powerful vocal performances.
Alcasid reassures her, saying, "Hindi, magaling ka pa rin hanggang ngayon. Iba lang ang estilo mo ngayon. Mas may puso ka nang kumanta kasi andito na ako sa buhay mo."
Embracing New Talent
The couple acknowledges the influx of new and talented singers in the industry. "Sasabihin namin, 'Ang dami nang bago 'no, ang dami nang magaling. Ang dami nang bata. Wala na siguro tayo,'" Alcasid recounted. However, he encourages a positive perspective, reminding Velasquez that they still have their place and the respect of the younger generation.
"'Ano ka ba? Oo! Pero hindi naman wala. Andito pa rin tayo. Ang mahalaga alam natin kung saan tayo lulugar,'" he emphasized.
Supporting the Next Generation
Alcasid highlighted that Velasquez enjoys interacting with younger singers and frequently invites them to guest on their shows. "She wants to be part of the lives and careers of those who are coming," he explained, noting that this is Velasquez's way of giving back, much like how established singers supported her early in her career.
Velasquez remembers how iconic singers like Pilita Corrales, Kuh Ledesma, and Pops Fernandez were kind to her when she was starting out. "Hindi niya nalilimutan 'yon," Alcasid said.
