Their life stories were inspiring, especially Sakine Cansiz's prison experiences or the 2 Belgian doctors' immersion in the PH struggle in Kasama by De Belder Vanobberghen. Some like Ascending the Fourth Mountain by Maria Virginia Yap Morales were opportunities for reflection. Loved many Foreign Languages Press titles, including Amit Battacharyya's book on the Indian people's struggle and T. Derbent's account of the hidden history of the communist-led anti-Nazi resistance. I finally finished Georg Lukacs' History and Class Consciousness, a solid Marxist-Leninist classic. Also loved the scholarly books on the labor conditions in iPhone factories by Jenny Chan, Mark Selden, and Pun Ngai, a history of Black Studies by Abdul Alkalimat, a history of the Huk rebellion's interventions on the women question by Vina Lanzona, and Filomeno Aguilar's essays on PH history and political economy. I feel these are works that the social sciences and humanities should be doing more. | | | | | You can also reply to this email to leave a comment. | | | | |
