In a devastating incident, two soldiers lost their lives and four others sustained injuries when they were struck by lightning during a security operation in Lubuagan, Kalinga. The soldiers, part of the 54th Battalion, were engaged in an operation against suspected insurgents at the boundary of Lubuagan and Pasil towns when the weather abruptly changed, leading to the fatal lightning strike. The deceased were identified as Corporal Andrew Monterubio and Private First Class Inmongog Aronchay. The injured personnel include Sergeant Dennis Bananao, PFC Melvin Danggalan, PFC Abegil Awingan, and PFC Riel Angya, who are currently receiving medical attention.
