Alexie Mae Brooks has recently captured the spotlight as the newly crowned Miss Iloilo. With her stunning beauty, intelligence, and strong pageant performance, she has quickly become a crowd favorite. Here are five key things to know about this remarkable beauty queen, athlete, and model.

1. Alexie is a National Athlete

Alexie Mae Brooks is not only a beauty queen but also a national athlete for track and field. She has represented the Philippines in various competitions both locally and internationally. In 2022, she was named the most valuable player by the UAAP, representing National University. That same year, she competed in the Southeast Asian Games in Vietnam.

Reflecting on her journey, Alexie said, "I was just a small kid back then, dreaming of everything I am and have now, and God only knows where I would be if I didn't trust in myself. So here I am as proof that hard effort, dedication, perseverance, determination, focus, and a competitive mindset can get you where you want to go."

On Instagram, Alexie frequently shares her workout routines and showcases her track skills, particularly her high jumps. Her fit and toned body serves as an inspiration for many fitness enthusiasts.

2. Raised by Her Grandmother

One of the most touching moments during Alexie's coronation night was her interaction with her grandmother. Alexie was raised by her grandmother, Lola Basing, after being born to a Filipina mother who worked overseas in Lebanon and never having met her father. This strong familial bond was evident when Alexie kissed her grandmother on the forehead after being crowned Miss Iloilo.

Expressing her gratitude, Alexie said, "Grateful beyond words for the support of my incredible team, mentors, sponsors, and the unwavering love from friends, family, and the people of Leon, Iloilo."

3. An Androgynous Beauty

Alexie stands out not just for her achievements but also for her androgynous beauty, possessing both masculine and feminine characteristics. Her versatility is evident in her Instagram posts, where she effortlessly pulls off both high-fashion gowns and casual streetwear. This unique feature has led some netizens to compare her to Zozibini Tunzi, Miss Universe 2019.

4. Advocate for Self-Love

Growing up as a black woman in Leon, Iloilo, Alexie faced bullying and criticism, particularly about her natural curly hair, which people often likened to a bird's nest. This bullying impacted her self-esteem. However, Alexie learned to embrace her unique features and now advocates for self-love and acceptance.

She encourages women to be proud of who they are, saying, "So what I want women to know is that they should be proud of what they have and who they are regardless of their appearance and differences in life. For me, it's always about giving other people the power of influence. Making them feel beautiful, confident, and empowered."

5. A Historic Win

Alexie's victory as Miss Iloilo is historic for several reasons. She won several awards, including Best Swimsuit, Best Cultural Costume, and other sponsor awards. More significantly, she is the first black and androgynous woman to represent Iloilo.

Reflecting on her achievement, Alexie said, "I turn childhood dreams into reality. The future holds endless excitement, and I embark on it with immense gratitude. Thank you from the depths of my heart."

Alexie is set to represent Iloilo in the prestigious Miss Universe Philippines 2024 pageant, where reigning queen Michelle Dee will crown her successor
