The University of the Philippines (UP) held a seminar and workshop on arts in innovation and entrepreneurship for graduating UP students, titled "ARTie Talks: Arts in Innovation and Entrepreneurship Seminar and Workshop," on June 4, 2024 at the 3rd floor of Arts and Design West Hall of the College of Fine Arts, UP Diliman. The event was attended by UP students from the different UP constituent universities (CUs), with some participating via Zoom.
Led and organized by the Office of Student Development Services (OSDS) under the UP Office of the Vice President for Academic Affairs (OVPAA), "ARTie Talks" was a collaborative effort by the UP Office of the President, the UP OVPAA, the UP College of Fine Arts (CFA), and Arts Toy PH, an active and growing marketplace and community of artists and collectors based in the Philippines.
The seminar featured Mr. Raymond Ty, founder of Arts Toys PH., who spoke about the art toy culture in the Philippines, the international scene of arts toys industry, and the sharing of events of art toys. After him, Mr. Blic Pinas, a member of Street Art Collectives named Cavity Collective and Pilipinas Street Plan, discussed mural contemporary art.
Lastly, Ms. Ayka Go, a Manila-based visual artist, shared insights about visual art and art on the international stage and answered questions during the open forum. "Sa UP, ang dami mong matututuhan, hindi lang academically pero social issues—in terms of discipline and materials," Go, an alumna of the UP CFA, shared. "Sobrang grateful ako sa mga professors ko because wala ako if not for them."
"Let us build an ecosystem flowering with academic geniuses," UP President Angelo A. Jimenez said. "I want you to realize the importance of arts, music, and imagination, and in the process, you will be able to find yourself in promoting wellness and well-being in the campus."
During her opening remarks, UP Assistant Vice President for Student Affairs Ma. Shari Niña Oliquino said that this initiative is being held in accordance with the University administration's mental health and wellness initiative.
OSDS Director Dr. Tristan Nathaniel Ramos led the ceremony of awarding certificates to the resource speakers, followed by Dean Marc San Valentin of the College of Fine Arts closing remarks.
