Two quakes have been reported today by the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs).
A magnitude 5.1 tremor struck off the coast of Surigao del Sur early this morning which the agency determined to be the aftershock of the Magnitude 7.4 earthquake last December.
The quake which was tectonic in origin struck at 3:03 a.m. some 103 kilometers northeast of Hinatuan, Surigao del Sur.
It had a depth of 10 kilometers.
Phivolcs expected no damage but warned of possible aftershocks.
Quake in Catanduanes
Another tremor of the same magnitude was reported on the same day in Catanduanes. It struck at 8:41 a.m. some 48 kilometers northeast of Gigmoto, Catanduanes.
It had a depth of focus of 59 kilometers and had been determined to be tectonic also in origin.
Aftershocks were expected as well but no damage has been reported.
