Vice President Sara Duterte emphasized the need for a united effort to create a safe, inclusive, and accepting environment for every Filipino child in honor of LGBTQIA+ Pride Month.
"Pride Month serves as a reminder of the power of love over hate, discrimination, and indifference toward a sector that has historically been subjected to shame, persecution, and inequitable opportunities in life," Duterte stated on Sunday.
She highlighted that Pride Month is not only a victory for those who have longed for a world free of "othering" but also for society at large, which has worked to break down barriers that isolated the LGBTQIA+ community and deprived them of recognition, respect, acceptance, and love.
Record Attendance at Pride PH Festival 2024
The Pride PH Festival 2024 in Quezon City saw over 200,000 attendees, according to organizers. Pride Month, celebrated every June, commemorates the 1969 Stonewall Uprising in Manhattan, a pivotal event that sparked the Gay Liberation Movement in the United States.
