White flowers surround the urn containing the remains of beauty contestant Geneva Lopez at her wake in a funeral home in Minalin, Pampanga.
The remains of beauty contestant Geneva Lopez have been cremated, and her family is holding a wake at the Gate of Heaven Memorial Chapel in Minalin, Pampanga.
Tragic Discovery
Lopez and her boyfriend Yitshak Cohen were last seen on June 21 when they drove to Capas, Tarlac, to check on a property they were planning to purchase. On Saturday, authorities discovered their bodies in a quarry site in Barangay Sta. Lucia. The National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) confirmed the identities of Lopez and Cohen.
Autopsy Findings
Autopsy reports revealed that both Lopez and Cohen died from gunshot wounds. Lopez was shot in the back of her torso and her thigh, while Cohen was shot in the chest and near the armpit.
Geneva Lopez's Legacy
Lopez was a contestant in this year's Mutya ng Pilipinas - Pampanga. Her urn, engagement ring, crown, sash, and shoes are displayed at her wake, which will be held until next Friday.
Family and Friends Mourn
Cohen's brother, Yaniv, mentioned that Cohen's body would be returned to Israel for burial according to their traditions. Yaniv also disclosed that Cohen was in Capas to secure a land title as collateral for a debt owed to him, suggesting that money might have been a motive behind the killings.
The Israeli Embassy in Manila extended condolences and called for justice for the victims. Yaniv expressed mixed emotions, saying, "We are very sad that we didn't find our brother and his fiancée alive. We, on the other hand, are very happy that we found them, and the development is now not a missing case as there's a lot into it."
Emotional Farewells
Lopez's sister shared heartfelt words at the wake, expressing her profound grief and love for her sister. "I wish I was the one who experienced your fear when you were killed, not you. I love my sister so much. Don't think about us because we can handle this."
Lopez's best friend, Lian Dasco, also expressed her deep sorrow, stating, "I consider her more than a family. My love for her is something that is not easy to describe as how you describe a friend. It's more than that kaya masakit (that is why it is painful)."
