The Philippine Air Force (PAF) conducted rescue operations for over 100 residents of Pasay City on Wednesday amid severe flooding caused by Super Typhoon Carina and the enhanced Southwest Monsoon.
The 505th Search and Rescue Group successfully evacuated residents from Barangay 183, as stated in a PAF release. "The PAF remains on alert, ready to deploy additional resources as needed, and urges the public to stay vigilant and follow safety advisories," the statement read.
Reports indicated that other parts of Pasay, including Cartimar and Rotonda, were experiencing leg-deep floods. Floodwaters also caused numerous vehicles to break down, and items from Libertad Market were seen being swept away.
The National Capital Region (NCR) has been declared under a state of calamity due to the extensive flooding affecting various areas of Metro Manila. The declaration enables local governments to access emergency funds and implement relief operations swiftly.
According to PAGASA's 5 a.m. cyclone bulletin, Super Typhoon Carina has intensified further and is moving towards Taiwan. The enhanced Southwest Monsoon (Habagat) has brought heavy rains and strong winds to Metro Manila. Carina is expected to exit the Philippine Area of Responsibility by Wednesday night or early Thursday morning.
