Cops Confess to Planting Evidence in Batangas Drug Bust
In a House public order and safety hearing, two police officers from San Juan, Batangas, admitted to planting drugs and a firearm during a buy-bust operation that resulted in the death of Bryan Laresma.
Bryan Laresma, 33, was killed on May 28 in Barangay Lipahan during the operation. Initially, Police Sergeant Michie Perez claimed she shot Laresma in self-defense, alleging he fired at her first. She also reported seizing over 4 grams of shabu from him. However, evidence presented at the hearing showed Laresma was shot in the back of his leg, contradicting Perez's account.
Laresma's brother testified that Bryan was merely waiting to hand over money to buy a rechargeable fan when police arrived. The Batangas Police Provincial Office discovered several irregularities in the operation, leading to the administrative relief of eight officers.
Perez, who requested an executive session but was denied, admitted to fabricating her initial statement and confirmed there was no gun or shabu on Laresma at the time of the incident. Police Major Sgt. Juan Macaraig corroborated this, revealing Perez planted the evidence under the bridge where Laresma was killed.
The hearing was adjourned with both officers instructed to submit new affidavits detailing their revised testimonies.
