The Philippine National Police (PNP) have started receiving information on the whereabouts of Pastor Apollo Quiboloy following the announcement of a P10 million reward for information leading to his arrest.
PNP spokesperson Police Colonel Jean Fajardo shared in a press briefing that Police Regional Office (PRO) 11 director Police Brigadier General Nicolas Torre III provided updates on the matter. "Some people called the hotlines, and after the reward was announced, many provided information," she said.
However, the police are cautious and thoroughly verifying the information to avoid misleading leads. "We will not accept it hook, line, and sinker because some might provide misleading information," Fajardo added.
In addition to this, the police are wary of potential prank calls and are ensuring all tips are credible.
Interior and Local Government Secretary Benhur Abalos announced the reward on Monday, noting it came from private citizens. Along with the P10 million reward for Quiboloy, P1 million is also being offered for each of the five co-accused.
Quiboloy's legal counsel, Atty. Ferdinand Topacio, questioned the motives of the private individuals offering the bounty, asking why their identities were not disclosed.
Arrest warrants were issued against Quiboloy and his associates for alleged violations of the Special Protection of Children Against Abuse, Exploitation, and Discrimination Act (RA 7610) and Qualified Human Trafficking (RA 9208). Quiboloy went into hiding after the Senate issued an arrest order for his refusal to attend hearings.
The police have raided several KOJC properties in Davao City, Samal Island, and Sarangani but have yet to apprehend Quiboloy.
Additionally, Quiboloy has been indicted by a federal grand jury in the US District Court for the Central District of California for sex trafficking and other charges. The US Federal Bureau of Investigation issued "wanted" posters for Quiboloy and two other KOJC members in 2022.
