The Association for Asian Studies (AAS) program committee has shared its Call for Proposals for the AAS 2025 Annual Conference program.
As relayed by AAS, the conference welcomes organized panels, roundtables, workshops, lightning sessions, individual paper and poster presentation submissions across a range of topics that will advance knowledge about Asian regions and, by extension, will enrich teaching about Asia at all levels. They are particularly encouraging Asia-focused scholars in the social sciences and arts disciplines.
The AAS 2025 Annual Conference will be in-person only in Columbus, Ohio, March 13-16, 2025. There will not be a separate virtual component this year.
Please read the full submission guidelines here.
As you work on your proposal, there are a few guidelines on presentation formalities shared by the AAS to keep in mind:
- Two Appearance-One Paper Rule: Individuals may participate in up to two (2) sessions. However, only one paper presentation appearance is allowed. See the full list of parameters as posted in the General Submission Guidelines.
- Language Diversity: To foster greater intellectual communication as part of the AAS's strategic plans for Global Asias, the AAS Board of Directors has decided to develop "Language Diversity Panels," in which scholars whose primary language is not English can present their research in their local Asian languages at AAS conferences. See the General Submission Guidelines for more information
- New Proposal Types: The Call for Proposals for the 2025 program includes two new proposal types: Lightning Sessions and Poster Presentations.
Please also make note of the following:
- Registration rates have been posted. Early bird rate ends October 24, 2024.
- Acceptances will be communicated in a two-step method: The first communication will be sent in late September to notify submitters of committee decisions. Scheduling details for accepted sessions and papers will be sent in October.
