Davao City, Philippines, July 31, 2024 -- The temporary closure of the Mt. Apo Natural Park (MANP) that commenced June 1, 2024 is scheduled to end next month.
In an earlier public advisory announced by the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) regional office XI based in Davao City through its FB page - DENR Davao, it said the MANPs annual three-month closure it to ensure recuperation of its ecosystems and wildlife species.
It said "the closure is done annually to preserve the remaining forest and endangered wildlife of the Philippine's King of Mountains, Mt. Apo Natural Park (MANP) officially commences its Off Season, starting June 1, 2024 and is slated to end on August 31, 2024".

The advisory also said that the entire season prohibits all trekking and camping activities at all opened trails in the natural park, giving time for the sacred mountain to recuperate and allow wildlife to roam their natural habitats without anthropogenic intervention.
Considering Mt. Apo's aesthetic, economic, cultural and ecological importance, with the on-going efforts to declare it as a UNESCO Global Geopark, the off season ensures protection and conservation for the protected area.
MANP's Protected Area Management started practicing the June to August closure in 2022 pursuant to MANP-PAMB En Banc Resolution No. 06, series of 2021, with the holistic development of MANP in mind. #pdb (with reports DENR Davao)
