Ernest John Obiena, the Philippines' top pole vaulter, will receive a P500,000 incentive from the City of Manila following his impressive performance at the 2024 Paris Olympics.
Despite finishing fourth in the men's pole vault final on August 5, 2024, the Manila local government, led by Mayor Honey Lacuna, announced the reward as a recognition of Obiena's talent and dedication. The mayor praised Obiena, who hails from Tondo, for his contributions to Philippine sports.
"Ang Lungsod ng Maynila ay saludo sa iyo, EJ! Maraming salamat sa pagmamahal na iyong ibinibigay sa bansa. Mabuhay ka, EJ," Mayor Lacuna expressed in a social media post, celebrating his achievements and acknowledging his commitment to the nation.
