The Philippine Basketball Association's (PBA) introduction of a four-point shot has sparked diverse reactions from basketball enthusiasts worldwide. However, the league seems to have found a supporter in NBA star Kyle Kuzma.
The Washington Wizards forward expressed his approval of the PBA's newest addition—a shot made from a line 27 feet away from the basket—during a media session on Monday in Makati.
"Yeah, 100 percent. I think it's good for the game," Kuzma said about the four-point shot rule.
Kuzma, who has played in the NBA for eight years since being drafted by the Brooklyn Nets in 2017 and then traded to the Los Angeles Lakers on draft day, believes that the four-point shot could positively impact basketball, particularly in the NBA.
The 29-year-old highlighted that several NBA players, including Steph Curry, have the range to score from that distance, which would ease the transition if the NBA decided to adopt the rule. "It allows more space, and at the end of the day, a lot of us shoot deep threes anyway," Kuzma added.
"Many of us can shoot from that far, and I think it'll be more dramatic in the NBA. Fans would probably enjoy it, and Steph would likely make many four-pointers," he noted.
The PBA has already implemented the four-point shot rule in the ongoing Season 49 Governors' Cup. Chris Banchero of the Meralco Bolts made history by sinking the first-ever four-point shot during their opening game victory against Magnolia.
