The City of Manila is gearing up to honor gymnast Carlos Yulo with a grand parade following his historic double gold victory at the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris, France.
Manila Mayor Honey Lacuna announced that the hero's welcome will start on Leveriza Street in Malate, where Yulo grew up.
"The Manila City Hall is already planning a hero's parade for Caloy Yulo. We will announce the date and route of the parade once we have coordinated with Caloy's team," Lacuna said in a statement.
"Tentatively, we are thinking of starting the parade where it all began—on Leveriza Street in Malate, where Caloy grew up. The parade will pass through areas near Malacañang, the University Belt, and will conclude at Manila City Hall."
Honors and Incentives
Mayor Lacuna added that Yulo will receive cash incentives, honors, and recognition from the city government. The local government will also coordinate with the Department of Education and schools in the city to allow students to witness the parade personally.
Yulo's Olympic Achievements
Carlos Yulo secured the Philippines' second Olympic gold medal following weightlifter Hidilyn Diaz's victory at the 2020 Summer Olympics in Tokyo, Japan. The 24-year-old gymnast won two gold medals in this year's games, excelling in the men's floor exercise and vault finals.
Yulo is expected to receive substantial rewards, including cash incentives and a house and lot from the government and private institutions. Various companies have already pledged additional incentives to the gymnastics sensation.
