A magnitude 5 quake rocked the island of Masbate Tuesday evening according to a report from the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS).
The tremor which has been determined to be tectonic in origin struck 15 kilometers southwest of Monreal at 9:01 p.m. Its depth of focus was about 9 kilometers.

Intensity V - City of Masbate, MASBATE
Intensity IV - Monreal, Batuan, and San Fernando, MASBATE
Intensity III - Aroroy, Baleno, Claveria, Dimasalang, Milagros, Mobo, and Uson, MASBATE;San Vicente, NORTHERN SAMAR; Almagro, and Tagapul-an, SAMAR
Intensity II - Cataingan, Mandaon, Palanas, and Pio V. Corpus, MASBATE; Allen, Capul, Lavezares, San Antonio, San Isidro, and Victoria, NORTHERN SAMAR
Intensity I - Lope de Vega, NORTHERN SAMAR
Damage and aftershocks were expected according to the state seismologists.
