The Police Regional Office (PRO) 11 has dismissed as "fake news" claims that they threatened to bomb the Kingdom of Jesus Christ (KOJC) compound if its leader, Pastor Apollo Quiboloy, was not surrendered. The denial came in response to rumors circulating online, allegedly spread by KOJC members.
In a video statement posted on Facebook, PRO 11 spokesperson Police Major Catherine dela Rey refuted the claims and urged the public not to believe or share misleading information. "KOJC is spreading another lie that we will bomb their compound," Dela Rey said. She compared these claims to previous falsehoods from the group, such as allegations that the police had cut off their water and electricity supply. "Last night, the lights in the KOJC compound were so beautiful," she remarked, dismissing the claim as untrue.
Dela Rey further cautioned the public against sharing these unverified reports on social media and advised them to rely on legitimate news sources for accurate information. "To the public, please don't immediately believe the lies they are spreading. Verify. Also listen to legitimate media that tell the truth," she added.
The accusations arose after Quiboloy-owned media outlet SMNI News reported that the Philippine National Police (PNP) had warned KOJC members they would bomb their cathedral if Quiboloy was not handed over within two hours. Quiboloy and several associates face arrest warrants for alleged violations of the Special Protection of Children Against Abuse, Exploitation, and Discrimination Act, as well as Qualified Human Trafficking.
Quiboloy went into hiding after a Senate arrest order was issued for his refusal to attend hearings. Additionally, he has been indicted by a U.S. federal grand jury for multiple charges, including conspiracy to engage in sex trafficking, sex trafficking by force, fraud, coercion, and conspiracy to commit bulk cash smuggling. In 2022, the U.S. Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) issued "wanted" posters for Quiboloy and two other KOJC members, Teresita Tolibas Dandan and Helen Panilag.
Despite these serious allegations, Quiboloy's camp has consistently denied any wrongdoing.
