Rochelle Pangilinan, one of the prominent actresses in the series "Pulang Araw," has expressed her long-held dream of starring in a historical drama. On Friday's episode of "Fast Talk with Boy Abunda," the Kapuso star shared her excitement about the project.
"Pangarap ko talagang mapasama sa historical drama kasi gusto kong mapanood ako ng anak ko," said Rochelle, who has a daughter named Shiloh. She hopes that projects like this can also be shown in schools to provide a visual understanding of history, which was previously learned only through books.
She reminisced about how difficult it was for students to imagine historical periods such as the 1940s, relying solely on books to visualize the era. "Dati, imagine mo lang ano itsura nung mga 1940s look, ano ba itsura nun? And then maghahanap ka ba sa iba-ibang libro. Ito, makikita mo na siya nang visual," she said.
Rochelle emphasized the challenges of portraying characters based on real historical figures. "Sure kami 'yung mga character na ginagawa namin, may nabuhay na ganoong character noon. So nangyari na siya, history siya kaya kailangan talagang [bigyan ng justice] lahat ng roles na ginagampanan namin. Kailangang maniwala kayo na may ganitong tao na nabuhay noon," she explained.
Expressing her pride in being part of "Pulang Araw," Rochelle stated, "Sobrang proud po ako na mapasama dito sa 'Pulang Araw'."
In the series, Rochelle plays Amalia Dimalanta-Torres, the aunt of characters Adelina (Barbie Forteza) and Eduardo (Alden Richards). "Pulang Araw" explores the intertwined lives of four childhood friends—Adelina, Teresita (Sanya Lopez), Hiroshi (David Licauco), and Eduardo—as they navigate the challenges brought by the Japanese occupation of the Philippines during World War II.
Dennis Trillo stars as Col. Yuta Saitoh, the main antagonist and a Japanese imperial army officer with a mission to conquer the Philippines. His character develops feelings for Teresita.
Since its debut on Netflix on July 26, "Pulang Araw" has garnered significant attention, trending on social media platform X and reaching the No. 1 spot on Netflix's "Top 10 TV Shows in the Philippines Today" list.
