The Department of Science and Technology Region XI (DOST XI) through the Davao City Science and Technology Office has formalized a partnership with Holy Cross College of Calinan (HCCC) through a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to advance educational resources by installing the Science & Technology Academic and Research-Based Openly-Operated Kiosks (STARBOOKS) digital library system at the institution.
The STARBOOKS program is a flagship initiative of the DOST's Science and Technology Information Institute (DOST-STII) which aims to modernize access to information and technology by providing a comprehensive digital repository of learning materials. The introduction of this system at HCCC is part of DOST's ongoing commitment to improving educational outcomes and bridging knowledge access gaps, particularly in underserved areas.
The MOU signing ceremony was attended by key representatives from both DOST XI and Holy Cross College of Calinan. The event was also graced by select students from the Senior High School STEM program.
According to DOXT-XI senior science research specialist Just Magallanes equipping the school with STARBOOKS is supporting the institution's educational goals and reinforcing a broader mission to promote scientific literacy and technological advancement across the country. This initiative is a testament to DOST's dedication to making science and technology accessible to all.
The school head, Sr. Cherie Eloisa L. Garrote PM, expressed her gratitude for the partnership, emphasizing the positive impact it would have on both students and faculty even as she said that it is an opportunity for them to enhance their educational resources.
Over 1000 students from the institution will benefit from STARBOOKS marking a promising step forward in the quest to improve access to quality education in the Region.
The event also included a brief orientation on the STARBOOKS program by Mr. Clint James Pardilla, DOST XI Science Research Specialist I. He provided an overview of the digital library's features, which include hundreds of digitalized science and technology resources available in various formats. The program's interactive component allowed attendees to deepen their understanding of the STARBOOKS system and its benefits.
