Cassandra Ong, the authorized representative of Lucky South 99, a POGO firm raided in Porac, Pampanga, became emotional during a Senate hearing on Tuesday as she recounted her relationship with Duanren Wu, an incorporator of Whirlwind Corp., the company that leases the land where Lucky South 99 operates.
During the ongoing Senate investigation into illegal POGO operations, Senator Sherwin Gatchalian focused on how Ong became involved with offshore gaming and Whirlwind Corporation. Ong revealed that it was through her "ninong" (godfather), referring to Wu, whom she said her mother introduced her to years ago.
Ong shared that her mother and Wu were best friends who met in China. She explained that Wu played a parental role in her life after her mother's passing in December 2017. As Ong spoke about her mother's death, she broke into tears, explaining the emotional weight of the situation.
However, when asked about her specific roles within Whirlwind Corporation, Ong declined to provide further details, invoking her right against self-incrimination.
