This is the highest level of gas release since instrumental monitoring began. The surge in gas emissions follows heightened seismic activity, which started on September 9, just months after the volcano's June eruption. While Kanlaon remains at Alert Level 2, Phivolcs warns that the ongoing volcanic earthquakes could signal the potential for another eruption. Sulfuric fumes have affected several localities, including parts of La Carlota City, Canlaon City, San Carlos City, and Moises Padilla. Prolonged exposure to volcanic sulfur dioxide (SO2) can cause respiratory issues, particularly for individuals with pre-existing health conditions. Residents are advised to use damp cloths or dust masks for protection. Entry to the four-kilometer danger zone remains prohibited, and flights near the volcano are restricted. | | | |
