Philippine Basketball Association (PBA) player John Amores has been charged with attempted homicide following a shooting incident in Lumban, Laguna, according to government prosecutors. Amores and his brother, John Red, were involved in the altercation, which took place on Wednesday evening.
Lumban police chief Police Major Bob Louis Ordiz provided a copy of the charges filed in the Lumban-Kalayaan Municipal Circuit Trial Court. The recommended bail for John Amores was set at P24,000, while his brother's bail was set at P10,000.
The incident occurred after a heated argument during a basketball game in Barangay Maytalang Uno, where Amores allegedly attempted to shoot a man named Lee Cacalda. Fortunately, the victim was not injured.
Amores and his brother surrendered to authorities early Thursday morning, reportedly due to threats they had received. Amores claimed he had already disposed of the firearm used in the incident, which was found to be unlicensed.
The PBA expressed its concern over the situation but refrained from further comment, with Commissioner Willie Marcial stating, "We are saddened by such an unfortunate incident."
This is not the first time Amores has been involved in controversy. In 2022, he made headlines for punching a player during a collegiate game.
