The PCG emphasized that it can still patrol and deploy vessels to the area, despite challenges posed by China's presence. PCG spokesperson Commodore Jay Tarriela explained that Escoda Shoal, unlike Bajo de Masinloc (Scarborough Shoal), has multiple entry points, making it difficult for Chinese forces to block access. He also noted that the vessel was pulled out for humanitarian reasons, including a lack of supplies and crew exhaustion, but other ships will be deployed to replace BRP Teresa Magbanua. Escoda Shoal, located 140 kilometers off Palawan within the Philippines' 200-nautical-mile exclusive economic zone (EEZ), remains a strategic point amid ongoing tensions in the South China Sea. | | | |
