At least 1.5 million devotees gathered in Naga City on Saturday, September 21, 2024, for the annual Peñafrancia Fluvial Procession, honoring Our Lady of Peñafrancia, also known as Inâ, and the Divino Rostro. This year's turnout surpassed the 1.3 million attendees in 2023, marking an extraordinary display of faith and devotion.
The 2024 celebration was particularly significant as it marked the 100th anniversary of the Canonical Coronation of the Image of Our Lady of Peñafrancia, making the event even more meaningful for those in attendance.
Despite rainy weather, pilgrims lined the streets and riverbanks to witness the sacred images of Inâ and the Divino Rostro as they were carried along the Naga River on an adorned pagoda. The procession culminated at the Basilica Minore, where Archbishop Rex Andrew Alarcon presided over the Solemn Pontifical Mass.
The theme for this year, "Se Siempre La Reina – Pamanang Banal: Atamanon, Padanayon, Palakupon", emphasized the lasting devotion to Our Lady of Peñafrancia as the eternal Queen of Bicol. The Bicolano words Atamanon (to nourish), Padanayon (to preserve), and Palakupon (to share) encouraged devotees to sustain and pass down this sacred legacy to future generations.
The Peñafrancia Fluvial Procession, held every third Saturday of September, remains a cherished tradition for the Bicolano people, symbolizing their deep connection to their faith and devotion.
