Shiela Guo, alleged sister of dismissed Bamban, Tarlac Mayor Alice Guo, has been moved to the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) custody due to security concerns, according to the Bureau of Immigration (BI) on Wednesday.
BI spokesperson Dana Sandoval confirmed in an interview with Unang Balita that Guo's transfer to NBI custody was decided as a precautionary measure. "Since our operations are joint with the NBI, we saw that it would be better if she is under their custody," Sandoval explained. She also clarified that while Guo is now with the NBI, her legal custody remains under the BI because she is facing a deportation case for misrepresentation and undesirability.
Sandoval emphasized that no special treatment would be given to Shiela Guo while she is detained at the NBI. "She will be in a regular cell. There is no special treatment for them when they are detained in regular cells," she stated.
On Tuesday, the Senate Committee on Women, Children, Family Relations, and Gender Equality lifted the contempt order against Shiela Guo and ordered her transfer to BI custody. Guo, whose real name is Zhang Mier, is charged with Disobedience to Summons by the Senate and allegedly using a fake Philippine passport. She is also implicated in a money laundering case related to Alice Guo.
Shiela Guo was arrested along with Cassandra Li Ong, a representative of a raided Philippine Offshore Gaming Operator (POGO) hub in Pampanga, in Indonesia on August 22. They were returned to the Philippines on the same day.
