The People's Democratic Republic of Algeria is the 10th largest country in the world by area. Located in the Maghreb region of North Africa, it is the eighth most populous African country.

Arabic and Berber are the official languages in Algeria. French is used in administration, business and education while Algerian Arabic or Darja is the lingua franca.

Algeria has the world's ninth larges natural gas reserves and the 16th largest oil reserves. A member of the United Nations and a founding member of the Arab Maghreb Union, the country has one of the largest militaries in Africa.

Abdelmadjid Tebboune has been serving as the president of Algeria since December 2019. He is the eighth person to hold the position.
