Camp Col. Rafael C. Rodriguez, Butuan City - In line with the intensified efforts of Police Regional Office 13 in support to the programs of National Task Force to End Local Communist Armed Conflict, another four mass-based supporters of the Communist Terrorist Group surrendered to Las Nieves police, Agusan del Norte province on Monday, June 28.
Regional Director of Police Regional Office 13, POLICE BRIGADIER GENERAL ROMEO M. CARAMAT, JR, identified the surrenderers as alias "Leon" 69 years old, alias "Marjun", 59 years old, alias "Genio", 58 years and alias "Franco", 54 years old, all were supporters of New People's Army under Guerilla Front 4A, North-Eastern Mindanao Regional Committee.
During debriefing, it was revealed that aside from giving food to the terrorist group, these surrenderers were also providing information on the activities of the government troops in the area.
The surrenderers cited that they used to fear for their safety and that of their family but have finally gathered the courage to fight back their fears upon seeing the serious efforts of the government to put an end to the five-decade insurgency problems in the country.
"The increasing number of CTG members and supporters who withdrew support to the terrorist group and pledged allegiance with the government is attributed to the strengthened efforts both of the PNP and AFP to address problems on insurgency and terrorism supported with the giving of appropriate benefits to former rebels and their supporters under the Enhanced Comprehensive Local Integration Program of the government," RD CARAMAT, JR. emphasized.
