Camp Col. Rafael C. Rodriguez, Butuan City - Charged with carnapping, the top 4 most wanted person in the town of Lopez Jaena, Misamis Occidental fell to the joint police operation in Barangay Sta Irene, Bayugan City, Agusan del Sur today, June 29.
Police Brigadier General ROMEO M. CARAMAT JR., PNP Caraga Director disclosed that Aljon I. Alihay, 22 years old, resident of Brgy Pasta, San Francisco, Agusan del Sur was collared by Bayugan City Police Station, Agusan del Sur Provincial Intelligence Unit, San Francisco Municipal Police Station (MPS), and Lopez Jaena MPS around 10:00AM.
The operation was given strength by virtue of arrest warrant issued by the Regional Trial Court Branch 13, 10th Judicial Region, Oroquieta City dated May 17, 2021 with recommended bailbond of Php300,000.00.
Based on investigation, the suspect was tagged in a motorcycle theft in Lopez Jaena, Misamis Occidental in 2018. He was arrested in 2020.
In September 2020, his case was given provisional or temporary dismissal by the court in consonance with the provision of Section 8, Rule 117 of the Rules of Court. Just recently, the private complainant opted to revive the case.
According to Republic Act No. 10883, carnapping is defined as the taking, with intent to gain, of a motor vehicle belonging to another without the latter's consent, or by means of violence against or intimidation of persons, or by using force upon things.
"The New Anti-Carnapping Act of 2016 protects our motor vehicle owners by imposing stiffer penalties to any person found guilty of carnapping. Violators shall think twice before violating the same," RD CARAMAT JR. said. (PMaj. Dorothy M. Tumulak)
