BATANGAS -- A zero-emission bus shuttle service project is expected to be launched in Batangas by the Lopez Group of companies under First Philippine Holdings Corporation (FPH).

The program will be used by their workers in the First Philippine Industrial Park (FPIP), a 520-hectare special economic zone. The move is also geared to introduce more green technology and reduce carbon emissions, said FPH.

FPH plans to deploy two Community Optimized Managed Electric Transport (COMET) buses for the transportation service, which are already scheduled for delivery in October. Around 30 passengers can be accommodated by a single COMET electric bus. It is also able to travel up to 100 kilometers on a single charge.

Each COMET bus will also be outfitted with a wi-fi connection, a GPS device, and a contact-tracing app among other amenities. The two high-tech electric buses were acquired by First Balfour's Therma One Transport Corporation (TOTC), another subsidiary of FPH, after reaching an agreement with the PH-arm of Global Electric Transport Worldwide, Inc. (GET).

"We have been integrating sustainability in our businesses and in how we operate. We have been looking at investing in electric vehicles for service vehicles for some time now. For us, this is the future," expressed TOTC President Anthony Fernandez.

Partnering with the Lopez Group was also a significant milestone for GET-Philippines, explained the company's president Freddie Tinga.

"We expect that we will be together at the forefront of what we believe is a changing of the guard in the transport and sustainability sector."
