More areas have been placed under enhanced community quarantine due to increasing cases and the threat posed by the highly transmissible Delta variant.

The government placed Laguna and Iloilo City under ECQ from August 6 to 15, and extended the ECQ implementation in Cagayan de Oro for the said period.

Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque said eligible beneficiaries in areas under ECQ will receive government financial assistance.

"It's not an issue of mayroon bang pondo kung hindi maghahanap ng pondo, kasi ang mandato ng Presidente huwag mag-ECQ nang walang ayuda… Huwag po kayong mag-alala dahil hindi naman forever na ganito ang buhay natin," Roque said in his Aug. 5 briefing.

The Department of Budget and Management (DBM) announced that it has released today (Aug. 6) P10.894 billion "to cover the financial assistance of affected individuals and households in the National Capital Region."

Similar to the last cash aid during the March lockdown, eligible beneficiaries will receive P1,000 per individual and a maximum of P4,000 per household "to ensure that food and other non-food requirements are met despite the imposed lockdown."

Updated quarantine

The government also placed Cavite, Lucena City, Rizal, and Iloilo Province under modified ECQ (MECQ) from Aug. 6 to 15; while Batangas and Quezon were placed under general community quarantine (GCQ) with heightened restrictions for the said period.

Gingoog City will be under GCQ with heightened restrictions starting Aug. 8 until Aug. 15.

Meanwhile, the newly released Inter-Agency Task Force for the Management of Emerging Infectious Diseases (IATF-EID) Resolution No. 131 also allowed the Philippine Basketball Association (PBA) to resume the 46th Season of their Philippine Cup Conference in areas under GCQ or MGCQ. – Report from Mela Lesmoras/AG-rir
