Crystal Miller Garney, 46, of Ashtabula, Ohio, United States was reported missing on September 10, 2021. She was last seen on September 8, 2021 at her home on East 14th Street in Ashtabula where she lived with Daniel A. Taylor.

The Ashtabula Coroner's Office, the Ashtabula County Sheriff's Department, the Conneaut Police Department and the Windsor Township Fire Department, the Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation, the Federal Bureau of Investigation helped the Ashtabula Police Department in the investigation. On September 13, 2021, Taylor was arrested as the suspect along with Heather A. Tinker and Randal D. Campbell as his alleged accomplices.

In the afternoon that day, Garney's body was found wrapped in plastic and cloth near a railroad right-of-way between Route 167 and March Road in Jefferson Township. The cause of death has yet to be determined but a gunshot wound is suspected, according to  Ashtabula Police Department chief Robert Stell.

On September 14, 2021, Taylor, Tinker and Campbell were arraigned in the Ashtabula Municipal Court. They were each charged with tampering with evidence and abuse of a corpse.

In addition, Taylor was charged with murder. Prosecutors asked Judge Laura DiGiacomo to set his bond at $250,000 cash, surety or property but because of the violent nature of the crime, the judge was setting bond at $500,000 cash, surety or property.

Prosecutors asked DiGiacomo to set Tinker and Campbell's bonds at $25,000 cash, surety or property each. The judge instead set each of their bonds at $50,000 cash, surety or property.

Taylor, Tinker and Campbell pleaded not guilty to all the charges. The three were booked into the Ashtabula City Jail.
