With the current pandemic, student organizations in the Philippines have to think of clever ways on how to conduct their activities online. From games to challenges, these activities are surefire ways to keep the bonding moments alive! Not sure how to execute these activities for your student organization? Worry not because we're here to help you out, orgmates!
What is a Student Organization?
Student organizations are one of the best things about school. Not only can they serve as your new barkada, but they can help you in your academics, too! Think of them as your new ates and kuyas! That is one of the reasons why many students — both high school and college — love to join student organizations!
Not to mention, there are plenty of student organizations you can choose from! There are the academics-based orgs that are mainly, as you guessed it, deal with anything academic-related. These are the Science, Math, or English Clubs which train you for regional or national competitions while, other organizations can be interest-based, sports-based, or advocacy-based. Whichever you choose, there's definitely a student organization that's going to fit your interests!
How can student organizations improve my school experience?
School isn't just all studies — there's also the fun! And, what's exciting about student organizations is that they're a source of both the fun and serious moments that really enrich our school experience. They can share notes, walk you through difficult subjects, or even help you study in group study sessions! Does anyone need food? They got some for you!...or you're probably studying in a cafe, anyways! Don't worry, we've all been there!
On the side of fun, student organizations hold events and activities yearly that put the *cool* in school! One of the most notable tidbits here is the week-long celebration that welcomes freshmen students to a university — the freshie week! Even when the freshie week celebrations are now held online, student organizations in the Philippines still make sure they are no less fun than their face-to-face counterparts! Even then, other activities that are held online, such as general assemblies and webinars, are made extra special with clever pakulo that ensure everything is interactive and memorable. Who wouldn't want that, right?
What are the online activities you can try to make your school org more fun?
So, you're here and you want to help your student organization make your activities extra super special? Wanna turn your online general assembly into the general assembly extravaganza? Well, you're in luck! Here are three things you can do to spice up your next student organization event!
Dance Challenges
Renegade, renegade? Savage, classy, boujee, ratchet? It really hurtz?
TikTok has given us *A LOT* of dance challenges — probably more than we asked for — but we're thankful for them, anyways! And, that is one of the ideas you can do with your student organization! You can ride on the trending dance crazes and challenges, which your members will surely enjoy! Not only is this free (unless your organization can give prizes ), but it's also quick and easy. Open the TikTok app, look for the song, use hashtags, and that's essentially it! And yes, as BTS said, you don't even need permission to dance!
Online Games
Breakout Rooms aren't just for one-on-one consultations, 'ya know?
Video conferencing apps like Zoom have features that can help you facilitate online games. The Breakout Rooms feature is just one of these! What's good about it is that if your student organization has a lot of members, you can divide the attendees into as much as 50 separate breakout rooms! Each room can have a facilitator, and that's basically it! You can play different games with and on the platform, too! Zoom now has an app gallery that allows you to play games like Werewolf — a person-hunting game where groups must find the werewolf before the werewolf finds them! Whichever game you choose, you'd surely entertain your student org with lighthearted entertainment that is free and accessible!
Competitions
You think competitions are only done face-to-face? You couldn't be more wrong!
One of the good things about competitions is that you can easily modify certain elements to make them fit your student organization. For example, singing contests can still be done by having contestants send in their unedited recordings! Sure, it's asynchronous, but at least you can avoid the potential Wi-fi lags, right? Another could be digital art contests! Let your members' creativity flow by letting them create their own digital art and then posting it on social media like Facebook! You can even have the public "vote" on their favorite by liking their faves!
How to survive the BS Org life?
The student org life is one of the most memorable highlights of our school life. Not only will we remember the fun for the duration of our stay in our school, but for even decades to come! That's why some students really love joining student organizations from as early as their high school years! If you want to survive the BS Org life, here are some things to think about: what a student organization is, what are your expectations, what role you want to play within the organization, and, for some, how to build your own student organization. These are overwhelming, sure, but let these be your guide to maximize your student org life!
Student organizations in the Philippines are one of the most colorful youth-led organizations there is. These organizations have become the training ground for Filipino students to push their advocacies, sharpen their skills, and be the best versions of themselves!
